Karl and I officially have two new roommates as of tonight.
That's right - Ashelia and Michelle are now dwellers of the Malefyt basement.
We officially have a full house! Four adults, one child, two dogs, two cats, and a snake.
Should be fun!

Getting on..

I am starting to feel a lot more "back-to-normal". As if such a thing is possible after making the transition into motherhood for the first time. But, physically speaking, I am able to navigate myself around the upstairs fairly well. Showering, using the bathroom, retrieving my own clothing, spit rags, snacks, and what-have-you's feels really good. I am not adventurous enough to start frequenting the stairs yet though, so the babe and I stay upstairs mainly. But, tomorrow I am giving Karl the day off of lunch duty, and I will be making my own meals all day long. I know, this all sounds ridiculous to those of you who haven't had labor and a c-section before, but being nearly recovered after a short 2 1/2 weeks (or long, how ever you look at it), is pretty good! As ridiculous as this sounds, I am mainly excited to start cleaning again! I am so sick of this cluttered-ness. I think a clean house and full cupboards could really do me good. I know, stupid, but so true.
To conclude my rant on motherhood and the like, I ran across this quote, and I liked it.
"A mother who gives herself completely to her infant meets herself in the dark and finds fulfillment. In the hours between midnight and dawn, she crosses the threshold of self-concern and discovers a self that has no limits." - Vimala McClure, The Tao of Motherhood.

It's wierd to look at your newborn, and think "how did that ever fit inside of me?"...
But, then I look at a picture about a week before I had Ethan, and maybe it's not so unreasonable. How was I ever this huge????

Being that I had a section, I didn't expect to lose any weight until I've recovered and can move around better. But, I only have 7 pounds to go! That's not too bad if you ask me. But, playing against me is the fact that now that I'm not pregnant - I have all of the cravings I didn't have (but should've according to everyone else) before. So, bring on the ice cream, soda, cookies, and fast food!

1 week old

Bubby is 1 week old today!

He had his first wellness check, and Dr. Hoffman said that he's doing so well it surprised him. He's already put on 7oz, and 1/2 an inch since birth! But the visit and a shower sure did wear me out! And he lost his new born belly button last night!
He is going to meet his Great Grandparents today, and I'm so excited. My Grandma and Grandpa were like parents to me growing up, so it's going to be special to "present" him to them.
We're starting to be okay with visitors, so if you'd like to stop by, evenings are the best (except Sunday). I'm still a little busy to do any chatting on the phone, so the internet is the best way to coordinate a time. But be prepared if you do come by, we have two very jealous doggies that will smother you for attention!

Ethan at 1 week:

I still feel like a train wreck - but I can actually use the bathroom by myself and sit up with out feeling like I'm going to die. Ha ha, so that's good. I can't believe that our beautiful son is already 5 days old. Everything just feels like a dream. (Perhaps Vicodin is the cause of that). But, honestly, I've never received such an amazing blessing from God. Until you're a parent, I don't think you could ever understand the level of gratefulness when you're given a healthy baby - especially in our case considering all of the challenges genetics posed against the health of Ethan. God is so amazing.

I can't stop staring at him, in awe of everything he is.

This is Karl.

I am the happiest man in the world.

We're home!

We are home! After 21 hours of labor (15+ unmedicated), 1 hour of pushing, a C-Section, and 3 days of a rough recovery. I will update more later when things are more settled.

Last appointment!

I had my last pre-natal appointment today! woo hoo! Another bout of false labor a couple days ago helped me out in getting me to 3+, 70%. Which means that I don't have to go in Thursday for ripening - and will go straight in to Labor and Delivery for Pitocin early Friday morning. I'm so anxious. The next time I see people, I will be a momma! How wierd?!
